SUCCESS AT LAST
I was starting to get a little paranoid for a while there, perhaps the curse of the blog or something as I was not catching any fish. WELL today certainly made up for all that …..I caught over ten lovely trout all on a dry fly. To be honest I don’t fish the dry fly often but I must say that I am now well and truly hooked.
The water was a lot clearer today, as you can see from this rather bizarre picture…
Well maybe you cant…But that was just one of the strange photos that I managed to take today. Its damn tricky trying to unhook a trout, whilst standing in a river , and at the same time try and take its damn photo…
OK ok….I take crap photos, you try it!!!!
here is a prepared one…
The day was almost spoiled by two blokes with there bait rods out and at the same flogging the water with massive fly rods, all within 20 feet of each other.
Met another nice guy who is over for a few weeks from Holland, he was staying with his parents. He had quite a heavy rod and did not seem to be catching anything so I told him where I was getting all mine but he still had no luck. I offered him my rod for a while but he said no…….Must have been put off by my amazing casting ability…………
as for the ten minutes I was casting with him watching there was no tangles, fly catching on my waistcoat and all line generally ending up in a big heap. I even caught a fish when he was there….Probably thought I was an expert hehehehehe
Oh by the way, I caught all my fish on the vet school stretch at the part…….Well if you look at the picture below this post you will see it..
i would have liked to have thought that after a god couple of weeks without doing any serious fishing i would actually hav edone quite well yesterday. When i got to the river it had risen by a good couple of feet , which should have been good although the water was very murky.
I spent a good while using a little spider by this submerged tree stump, ther was a few fish rising arond it , i had tried a fry fly but with no luck. They were iether just splashing it or spitting out….iether way they were to quick for me.
Im still not feeling 100% after being ill, i may go for a wee gander tommorow evening, or quite possibly in the morning. I was hoping that i would hav eseen a Salmon or sea trout by now. Ah well more in the morning maybes.
My other half was taking part in the Glasgow half marathon and as i was walking from place to place to wave her on my path was taken along the banks of the Clyde right in the middle of glasgow. There was a heron sitting in the middle of the River and as i gazed into the water i see a large shoal of BARBEL swimming right in close to the edge. The biggest i would estimate to be around 5-6lb and the smallest was probably no smaller than 3-4lb.
A really good sign for the centre of Glasgow i would say.
Ohhhhh If only it were a Salmon I had seen this year!!!
Oh Oh……incidentally……if you go to GOOGLE and type in fly fishing on the river kelvin GUESS what comes up first 🙂
I have changed the font on the site, and added another stretch. i have bought some damsel nymphs and some worm flies so will be trying them out over the next few days.
I SPIN FOR TROUT
Nah not really but i did catch a trout the other day whilst spinning. Technically we were spinning for Pike. I had been talking about going for a walk with a pal for a while now from Milngavie and walking right down beside the allander to where it joins the kelvin and then walk from there along the kelvin to the vet school.
He had done very little fishing before so i took an old telescopic rod and some mepps to see if we could entice some Pike.
Anyway….here is a picture of the fish pass in Milnagvie, hopefully where some of those Salmon from the kelvin get to.
You know its funny because sometimes its not the fishing that makes a nice day out…in this case it was the wildlife
We also seen a familly of Stoats which was pretty amazing
Heres a picture of EM walking across the fallen tree from the fallen tree stretch
Thought I would include a couple of nice pictures of some nice trees that can be found between the vet school stretch and the fallen tree stretch….
Possibly not the best picture in the world. but if you look closely you can see the patterns in which it grows is lovely.
I LIKE trees!!!!! OK
I have given my website to Morgan and he is hosting it on his comp for th etime being…..well… until he goes off to uni at the end of september anyway and then i will transfer it to my partners free space. He also moaned at me about the amount of spelling mistakes… So anyway, i will do the site changes and add a little more of the next few days. Possibly tomorow i will add another stretch!
Ah yes, The Kelvin Trout wouldnt bve the same if they didnt act like the stubborn little buggers that they are. I would like to say that when i went down to the river today for the first time in a week i at least caught a couple. BUT i caught absolutley bugger all, ah well start the way you mean to go on and all that. I started at the vet school and worked my way down. I took my digital camera with me as i wanted to get some pictures in for the site. Actually what i had wanted was a nice picture of a Kelvin trout to show how nice they are , you know sometimes i think it is the camera that puts them off. Ah you gotta love em.
Anyways, i got some nice pictures for the site, now all i have to do is resize them, some are a bit blurry, so next time im down i will take some more.
Well, I decided to start the fishing blog whilst I am building the site. I have been ill the last week so have not managed to get to the river at all. I will however be getting up early in the morning and will be taking my digital camera with me. Fingers crossed 🙂
