Decided on fishing the Kelvins big sister/brother as a pass was given at the last minute – it looked like it was going to be good conditions – overcast and windy – so where did it all go wrong? Well for a start it was cold, and a north easterly wind [...] I thought I had hit the river at the right time, I gazed rather pessimistically (it must be said) at the river – it was the colour of strong tea and up around a good foot and half – that is a lot of water coming down. The venue was the Clyde however I was [...] It has been pretty much non stop fishing from early Saturday morning until now – Sunday late afternoon. Saturday We had a crazy plan to try and catch 4 species – Pike, Trout, Sea Trout and Mackerel. It turned out we enjoyed fishing for the trout just a little too much and so missed out [...] Not sure what happened today – fished the Clyde with little success. It was warm, overcast and little wind. There were several types of flies hatching, Yellow Mays, A large type olive and then this tiny little olive. I still managed to winkle out a few trout – this one [...] One of the things I like about fishing urban rivers is all the wee nooks and crannies you get to see which are right underneath people’s noses. Things that people don’t usually get to see just because they are walking along roads instead of underneath them. This was on the lower Clyde on [...] It was raining during the night and when I left for the river it was still spitting slightly, it was also overcast and possibly a little muggy – I did not feel the east wind which has been plaguing us for a couple of weeks now. I tried a new spot on the Clyde (on [...] So the seasons have decided to totally miss out spring and have just dived straight into summer instead. The day was roasting hot, into the twenties and the Clyde was the venue. I split up from Alex (who caught his obligatory 2lber on the nymph) while I targeted some rising trout on some flat water [...] I decided to rewrite this post after a comment that Tom Chandler left on my last post he stated: Nice fish, though you really need to work on your posts a bit. Admitting that the fish pretty much hooked itself is a violation of the Fly Fishermen’s Writer’s Code, which stipulates that every fish [...] Yea, so it was caught on a woolly bugger; however it was snowing intermittently all day and the chances of catching anything on a dry fly was utterly remote. Oh sure, I could have used nymphs but I wanted to see what would grab one of my new olive streamers – it turned [...] It’s happened, just in the way the rivers rise high in the winter and then low in the summer my thoughts are turning from Pike back to Trout. I am not saying I will be forgetting Pike for the summer – quite the opposite actually I am actually quite looking forward to taking a Pike [...] |
