I had a day on the big river on Sunday – my pal Emanuele was up from Hull for a long weekend and we arranged to meet up for a day’s fishing – we used to fish this place regularly a few years ago. The day was overcast and warm – at least warm [...] Ok OK – I promise this was not a fix – the winner of the Fish Bum Mongolia DVD was in fact my long time fishing buddy (now moved away and riverless) Emanuele. Ironically he did not even send in the photo, his pal from the states took the time to send me these pics [...] Sunday was so good I decided to take a half day on Monday from work and go back. Of course all the trout by this point had eaten there fill, where on Sunday you could hardly place your fly on the water without catching a trout yesterday the river seemed all but devoid of [...] Emanuele picked me up; I was ready to go as soon as he arrived. The day looked promising, rain was forecast for later but the sky was mostly white with the odd dark cloud and patchy blue. I have known and fished with Emanuele since around July 2004 – old time readers of the [...] Yes, wet wet wet – not the dodgy 80s group but more the fact it has rained pretty much all day. When I say pretty much I mean all day. Looking at the weather forecasts last night I knew things were going to be grim, all of them were forecasting heavy rain – they [...] The Tummel I have been putting off this post for a while now – partly because Emmanuelle caught a lovely big trout that he wanted to see the picture of (and I wanted to tease him while withholding the pictures) and partly because I was not sure whether to tell you a rather amusing [...] On Thursday morning some fishing buddies (Emanuele, Mike, Alex and Allan) and I will be leaving for a few days fishing up North. The plan was to fish The Don on Thursday or Friday and then hit other rivers on the way back down but seeing as there is a cold front sweeping in [...] So a couple of friends and I went to our little spot on the other river that we know for an evening session. It was hard fishing from the outset, it was totally in contrast to the other evening when it was hard fishing but at least there was plenty of fish actually rising. [...] This River Tummel starts its life 60 miles to the west of Pitlochry on the windswept Rannoch Moor close to Glencoe. It begins as the River Ba and runs east passing through numerous lochs including Loch Ba, Loch Laidon, Loch Eigheach, Loch Rannoch, Dunalastair Water, Loch Tummel and finally Loch Faskally, until it reaches [...] So last night I went fishing with friend and his pal to the same place we went a few weeks ago. It was a hot hot heat humid night and we got there about 4.30pm ish. It was quite interesting actually as both the people I was fishing with are Italian. They are heading [...] |
