Bleating on about the rain…..

6 July, 2012 by Alistair

I do not want to keep on bleating on about the rain however the weather appears to be a major talking and thinking point at the moment among river trout fishers. Seeing as how this blog was birthed during a spell of particularly wet weather when I was unable to fish you can imagine how productive I have been.

This morning instead of hitting the river at 5am for a spot of Salmon fishing I instead ran a 6k route along the river – not many photos as I did not want to stop and get out of the “fat burning zone” and believe you me I need to spend as much time in that zone as I can possibly get.

Roaring!

If you have a look at this graph taken from the SEPA site you can see that the river has risen and then fallen.

Well this has been the case pretty much every day for the last couple of weeks. This I suppose is good and bad – good for the Salmon fishers and bad for the trout fishers. I suppose the chaps that fish regularly on lochs are not as obsessed as the river fishers about the amount of rainfall however and for that reason I am envious of them.

The Slush!

If I see the weatherforecast for my region for next week
I would probably also looking at coffee colored rivers.
Still there are some stillwaters I could fish but I would
have to be really desperate then.

Long time forecast predicts more unstable weather for my
region with plenty of rain and low temperatures.
    Summer has been officially cancelled.

On the positive note I have a trip planned to the deep German
south and last time I went there the stream was barely flowing.
I guess this time I will not have any problems with that.

The summer holidays are coming and I fear that the folks who
can not afford to go to the sunshine secure places around the
Med are in for some bad luck weatherwise.

    Hi Alistair

My first season as a RKAA member. My flat backs on to the River not far from the photos above, which makes it both an ideal for obsessing about river levels and, more recently, a nightmare of constantly dashed hopes – definitely one of the more frustrating seasons I’ve endured. Nonetheless, have really enjoyed starting to get to know the River, and your blog is really entertaining – thanks for your efforts!

Some fishing to be had amongst the rain though – had a relative snorter of a brownie off a Kelvin tributary last friday – the full pound and a couple of ounces more. Tremendous sport when you can get it.

Unfotunately meteorologists think this weather will be the norm for British summers. I was on the river two weeks ago, and it actually rose about 1.1/2 ft in the five hours I was there. Chilling thought.

I`m off to the hills above the Clyde Estuary, for a few days wild brown and rainbow fishing, then off to the Med for 3 weeks fishing, sunbathing, fine food and wines, did I mention fishing? lol

So you are still alive down there in Glasgow?
Just asking as I red this on the GAC website:

Unfortunately due to torrential rain in Glasgow we have suffered some problems with flooding
and as such some services may be affected.
Unfortunately this will also delay order despatch and will extend delivery schedules.
We are working hard to remedy the situation and will hopefully be back to normal soon.
We have also suspended Next Day deliveries for the next few days as they cannot be guaranteed.
