What you needing done …cant’t you do it yourself ?

  • I think the alternator pulley just snapped on my car – not a run of the mill do it yourself job :-(

Aah!!! not a common problem I’d guess….what makes you say that the pulley has snapped …usually it’s the belt that will snap ?? What car?

    Ouch, that’s gonna cost Alistair

  • It is a Pug 307 – Last night I was driving along and I thought I heard a noise coming from the front of the car – I dismissed it as a stone or something (my paranoia told me something had fallen off the car however I dismissed it for being a worry wart).

Anyway – after driving along for a while my battery light came on – I got to my destination with no problems and drove back home (after a few mins the battery light came on again)

This morning I decided to take the car to a mechanic after work however after a few mins driving it was clear something was wrong – for a start the hot air blower did not seem to be blowing as strong and the window wipers were very slow – then the air bag warning light came on with other warning lights flashing on and off – the stop light was flashing every now and again as well – the battery light was still on – I kept hearing clicking noises coming from the glove box as well.

As I was only a few hundred yards from my house I headed back – just as well really as when I pulled into my space the steering was very heavy as if the power steering had failed.

Been hunting around and read similar stories on various Pug boards

    :-(

Meant to say Alistair …..Can you put a pic of the offending bit up ?…..You not in AA or other breakdown service or is the car at home perhaps ? ..Even so they might not be able to do it although they should if they can get the part . Must admit I’m surprised the pulley has snapped .

So have you looked at the alternator …is it not just one of the belts . Obviously the car has been running on battery power which hasn’t been getting replaced and the power steering belt is probably linked in there somewhere as well which caused the steering to be heavy . I’d suggest you call in a garage who will recover the car or find a Mobile Mechanic .

Just Googled myself ( well not myself obviously) and it does seem to be a problem with Pug 307’s ..

Sorry to hear about das motor, that sucks.

Thats a pretty good deal Alistair is offering, his flies have enough material on each fly to make yourself about four or five normal flies, so a bargain to be had.

All joking aside, I hope you get the car sorted for the 15th…still need to plan a pike trip….
