Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association Commitee Resign

Well, here is a bit of juicy info that seemed to pass me by. It seems the entire Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association Committee has resigned due to accusations of mismanagement of finances and mistrust by the members around the way they are running things. One resignation letter points directly at a forum set up by a member of the club – Robbie – stating that a whispering campaign has been going on for some time against the committee. I am an occasional visitor to the forum and yes, I have noticed a distinct bias towards thinking the committee is rubbish however I do think that most people think the way their own organisation is run is usually that it is a pile of old tosh.

Take The Kelvin for example – I took the hump with them as they don’t seem to act on anything – poaching, river management, the refusal to put up one sign saying you need a permit to fish the river, however they don’t let that stop them doing nothing !

Anyway, what I will say about the Leven is the reports in the popular UK magazine Trout & Salmon are usually totally inaccurate. I regularly speak to guys down on the river who tell me they have had a pretty poor season however to read the reports you would think every Tom, Dick and Harry was hauling the Salmon in.

Just goes to show you I suppose!

edit: I am liking the new design of the  Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association website. I also particulary like the two blogs which are part of it:

The commitee do a grand job. These cowards who hide behind there STUPID names should stand up and be counted. All they are doing is trying undermine and destroy the association by unsupported allegations and hearsay. A good river needs a strong commitee. P.S i fish not only the kelvin but i am a fully paid member of L.L.A.I.A

  • Hi Stu – thanks for dropping by – I take it then you believe the LLAIA do a grand job ?
I have got to admit I never really understand why people complain about a commitee that actualy tries to get stuff done – surely if the members dont think they are doing the right thing then they should tell them.

The Kelvin comitee do nothing and refuse to do anything for the river (other than dougie brown) when I suggested putting some signs up they stated they would only get pulled down…….jeesh…have they never heard of a ladder !

Years of compounded neglect and mismanagement coupled with an overt culture of blatant mistruthes has only been continued by the current commitee.
Tis amazing how the “same old, same old” can be bullshitted back to the same punters with a fresh lick of paint.
Pay bailiffs a wage that merits them actually doing a conscientious job.
take into consideration that the people that pay the associations cost are the fisherman on the banks and start inproving the fishings for Joe Bloggs rather by actually having a bailiff force enforcing the current laws and regulations rather than the defeatist attitude of curtailing everyones fishing actions and methods at problem areas of water.
Full time bailiffs should also be expected to work during the week for the full year as opposed to the longstanding bluff that currently presides of working the Glasgow holidays and Saturdays.

  • Damn interesting points you bring up there – I suppose there is a lot more cash invested in Loch Lomond and the Leven than the Kelvin however I would like to hear your views on the Kelvins commitee and bailiff ?

    Alistair.

with regards bailiffs anoying anglers this would never have happened in years gone by as they were nightshift chasing the netters since there are no netters left no need for the nightshift lol no fish left is it not the case anglers dont want to pay more every year for less chance of catching a salmon in scotland never mind the clyde somthing got to give and the llaia infighting is only the start

  • I thought all the issues were resolved ? Have the commitee not all been voted back in ?

I was a member of LLAIA for two seasons in the early 2000,s I always enjoyed my days out on the Endrick Assoc waters.

I was subject to mis reporting though. I caught I salmon and one grilse off the Leven and was attributed with several Salmon and numerous seatrout over two years.

  • :-) I think everyone takes the Trout and Salmon reports with a pinch of salt these days :-)

” I think everyone takes the Trout and Salmon reports with a pinch of salt these days”

Salt is always better on a fish supper IMO

    Jeez…when I saw that e-mail ” LLAIA Comittee resign” I thought …AGAIN ??? LOL

  • Hi Fellas,
This is news to me regards LLAIA…still I don’t go in for buying T&S.
Regards the idea about paying bailiffs…I’ve been an advocate of this for many years and have got MSPs on my side in the process including a cabinet minister.
Thing is, we have a weird situation in Scotland e.g. Queenie (QE2, Crown Estates) own the fishing (supposedly but we could always vote these carpet baggers out, and should immediately) but they will not offer a penny for bailiffing the system (e.g. the Clyde System); we get our warrants from Parliament (re Scottish Ministers) but they’ve never offered anything in the way of dosh to pay bailiffs either. Last October I had a meeting with Mike Russell MSP, Minister for Enviornment, and Sandra White MSP, about this very non-sensical subject and got across our argument that was 1) we cannot expect volunteers to do a full time job for perpetuity for no recompense and 2) and these same bailiff most be supported financially e.g. givem say some form of payment akin to the TA, as, after all, they are looking after a National Asset the fish, and are, in effect, carrying out a job not that different from a Wildlife Officer. Mr Russell and Sandra White agreed with us and advised us to take our case to Parliament, but with no thanks to certain UCAPA neanderthals, were still waiting for the RCFMT to do it.
Still I’ve warned the current batch at the RCFMT that if they don’t shift their arse and do it; I will do individually or/and with likeminded individuals.
Sorry for the rant guys but I get rather pissed off sometimes and especially with those that not only neanderthals but have indifferent attitudes towards the conservation of our system and do nothing but bugger up any logical idea to make things happen for the better.
    Cheers for now.
