I think those are Asian grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) which come from northern China ans Siberia. They’re more than capable of surviving at Scottish temperatures. I don’t know how well they’d do in the Kelvin, but I think they’d be happy enough in the canal. You used to be be able to buy them as pond fish, but I think the EU has banned them now.

Have you been out after Salmon yet Charlie or do you prefer a more sedate attack once you know Salmon are in the river ?

I have not been out yet,and i probably wont be until about mid-march,which is the earliest i have ever seen a springer in the kelvin.
