So I needed a new pair of Polaroid’s – in fact I needed two pairs – a pair with light lenses for low light conditions and a pair with dark lenses for…..you guessed it, bright light conditions.
Usually I would just head off to my local boots and try and find a pair that will do the job or even buy a couple of cheap pairs made for fishing – the problem with them is they scratch very easily and they look ridiculous on you……what is wrong with this photo?
You are correct – a perfectly good picture ruined by a pair of enormous unflattering shades – my wife fashion advisor goes nuts when I show this photo – in fact she is only letting me now as the dark days are behind me – I have two new pairs from ……wait for it – Polaroids – I suppose if you are going to buy a pair of Polaroids you should buy em’ from the people that invented them in the first place.
So I got a pair of Lure’s and a pair of Torrent’s – I have been using them for the last few weeks and so far I am finding them great – usually when I review anything I wait until they have been given a bit of abuse however I thought I should let you know Polaroid are doing a promotion just now and are giving a rather nice discount of 10% on the cost of these babies – all you need to do is put in carp1 (no laughing at the back) as the discount code and proceed to the check out !
I will post a fuller review in time however so far they are great!
Check out the Polaroid Site
Can i have your old ones, my cataracts are getting bad
It’s easy for you Alistair .What about us that wear specs? 🙂
Anyone tried Cocoons?
Stuart get yourself a pair of presription polarised shades, that’s what I do. I am a specky too.
Aye, but then you need a perscription pair for low light and another for bright sunshine. Not cheap. I was gutted to find out you can’t combine polarised with those reaction lense thingy’s. We can put a man on the moon, but polarised lenses that react to the light, that’s a no no.
I wrote a whole screed out earlier but I see it’s no here 🙁 so here we go again
Hi Campbell.I did look at scrip sunglasses but baulked at the prices I saw ..What I do have is a pair of those ones with a small scrip pair that clip in to a frame and you get three different colour sunglass lenses that clip on in front and flip up when need be .Only thing I didn’t like was that the scrip pair were smaller than my usual frames and I found that off-putting but mebbe I need to just persevere with them .
They are the third pair down at this link ( or similar)

Good God – is there any point in me reviewing these babies if all my readers wear glasses?
You wait ’til you need one of these !!! ..lol

Let’s face it, its not that bright that often here in sunny Scotland, get a pair of good copper prescription lenses and they are fine in bright and dull conditions. With any polarised specs, you only get a real good look into the water when the sun is a) at yer back and b) at the right angle, the rest of the time they just help take the glare off. I can wear mine until after sun down in the summer.
The best polaroids I ever purchased, XLOOPs I have two pairs, Grey and Amber lenses, less than £20.00 for the two pairs online from the-ultimate-eyewear-shop the price includes postage too.
Do you guys ever think about getting that laser eye surgery? I see it on the telly all the time – is it risky?
Hey thanks for commenting Peter – I have never even seen that site before!
One of the guys in work had the laser surgery but still wears glasses in the office, he says it’s through habit. Hasn’t helped putting leader on a size 18 hook tho. That’s an interesting site for glasses, thanks Peter.
Ian
“Whats wrong with this photo?” the answer should have been ‘a decent sized brownie fae the Kelvin!’ As for sunglasses…I got a pair of (the easily scratched ones) clipper-on ones fae Woolworths about twenty-five years ago and I still use them…no expense spared in the fashioned stakes wie me boys!
Anyway, I’ve yet to hear a fish slaggin me aff for not wearing Polariods or Foster Grants – do you remember them? Frankly am pissed off bumping into the overdressed sorts when I venture out these days…and I tend to seek out the slobs as they don’t speak in technical magazine terms and we can have a far better conversation. Thats my moan over for the day!
PS, was at Lake of Menteith on Saturday and frankly it was dire. In five-hours (evening) I seen (at best) thirty fish rising. Am certain the problem of early May will take some time to dispel and would not recommend that you go there for several months e.g. maybe next year.
Cheers
Roddy
Ian..Point the guy in your office in the direction of that wee device I mentioned a few posts back.
Stuart .
I wouldn’t dream of advising any of you on finance or fashion. But I can tell you that Polaroid has a range of clip-ons that do just what the name suggests – clip on to your prescription sunglasses. There’s even instructions for measuring so you get the right fit.
Have a look. http://www.polaroidsunglasses.co.uk/sunglasses/clip-ons/index.htm
Thanks, Laura
Stuart .. Saw that little gadget on FFF. He was celebrating 40 years with the company last year and we got him some fishing gear and one of those fly threader boxes from GAC

Got one for myself as I was struggling when it was getting near to dusk to tie on some of my smaller size flies and with this have no problems.
I’m surprised to hear you say that about lake of Menteith Roddy, they didn’t seem to have any problems during the world fly fishing championships last week!!! …and everyone I spoke to staff and visitors said things were back to normal!
Cheers
Jim
Thanks for that link Laura! I have an old set of clip ons that are huge and make me look a bit like Dennis Taylor. They don’t really fit any of the new trendy frames. Those smaller ones on your link look perfect.
Hey Alistair – lay off the visually challenged! Somebody sticking a knife into my eye for the sake of some treny shades hardly seems worth it. Specs are all the rage!
