Got to say, as I lay here next to a pool in Italy it was difficult to bring myself to write a post about my recent fishing exploit, however as some folk think I only fish when I write a post I decided anything is better than nothing. Plus, considering I keep bleating about the lack of online original written content I should actually put my typing fingers where my heart is.
As some of you know I have now somehow magically managed to get every second Wednesday as a non working day. That means I still work over my time at work yet I get to take a day off guilt free! I also have it sorted that I go fishing somewhere on that day no matter the weather as the first time I don’t go you can bet your bottom teeth that the spell will be broken and I will be gardening or decorating instead.
In all seriousness, if you fancy meeting up for a fish somewhere and know how to fish I am more than happy for folk to join me in a mid week session – offer is open to anyone if you have met me or not! There is really no need to be shy !My next trip may well be the Tay however any reasonable River close by is for the taking.
Anyway, the day was forecast to be overcast and warmish, sadly the cloud cleared for most of the afternoon and the sun came out. When I first got to the river I noticed it was coloured and due to not fishing this part off the river often I got back in my car and headed to another part as I was on the”wrong side”. I had tried to cross the river last year in similar conditions when the river rose a free inches and even in that water it was very powerful and just a little bit scary.
I wandered down the river and did not spot any rising fish whatsoever , and only managed to pick up a few trout on the nymph under an indicator.
Later I would catch another that would put a fair old bend in my SLT and make me remember that my net was in my garage…
Thankfully I did not catch any more monsters however I did manage to wrinkle out some out of the blue…
Again, in almost all the pools I fished I came across otters…
On other days the otters did not put the trout off and on this day I did not see any rising trout anyway the whole day other than ones splashing around because of the Argulus. I had seen them on Kelvin trout before however not these ones, I had witnessed the distressed behaviour though. Argulus are a common parasite and are flat, round and jelly like. They feed on skin and mucus. Ordinarily they don’t harm the fish however the river needs a good spate and that will sort them out.
Anyway, I can hear some euro trash tunes coming from the bar and a cold one is calling!
See you at the bar!
Enjoy your holiday alistair , hopefully get out for a session with you before the end of the current season jus need the wee baby to settle in and il hope to get a few fishing sessions in aside from the odd couple of hours down on the Clyde chasing the slob trout round about where I stay , any way tight lines .
Richard
Congrats on landing some really quality trout—everyone needs a little time away, enjoy!!
I wouldn’t mind getting together on Wednesday, but you live far from me and with today’s gas prices, well… Besides, I don’t think euro trash tunes are for me, though a cold one at the bar sounds good. Nice fish!
Thanks for commenting! Never mind the gas prices considering the amount of flights that are being cancelled I doubt any form plans could be made anyways!
