An adventure you say?
Alex was keen to get me on a kayak so we planned a trip to Loch Laidon via loch Ba. I gazed at the map and it did not look too bad – the river that connects Ba to Laidon is around 2 miles and on one report it stated that it was 95% paddling with about 5% pulling the kayak. On the day it turned out to be the opposite. We met at a reasonable 8am and we were soon on Ba paddling up the loch – I am always impressed by Ba – I have fished it a few times, once with the tube where I managed to get myself stuck on a car sized boulder just under the surface. It seemed quick however we eventually got to the river. Then the gruelling task of making our way down the river started. Pretty soon I was drenched in sweat as we slipped and slid over stones draped in green slime. Looking back, it was quite fun however at the time it was awful. I guess if you are only kayaking then this is part of the fun however, we were keen to get fishing.
We got our first look at Laidon, and we were soon camped up and out again on the kayaks – trout were plentiful and often suicidal. I was ok with using my 7 weight as the trout pulled like little devils. Alex typically caught a monster at over a pound.
Thankfully the wind kept up and…..
….It was awesome
