Not to interrupt a lovely discussion on the finer points of angling law, but that is a truly beautiful picture of a trout. I stared at it for at least a minute. Thanks.

Andy,
Not sure if you meant "indeed you do" to mean you do need a rod licence ( altho' there are none up here ) or,more probably, indeed you do need a permit :-)
BTW ,where did your friend see this advert?

A friend of mine saw a TV ad the other day saying it was illegal to fish anywhere in Scotland without a rod licence. Anyone heard anything about this?

Clyde Style wets Alistair? Tisk, tisk, your standards are fairly slipping old boy!!! I remember the first time we met we had a long discussion regarding the merits of these little flees. I fished solely with them and small mymphs in those days but you managed to persuade me over to the dry. However, they can be deadly and are worth re-visiting when conditions dictate. I 've just returned from my favourite east coast river where conditions were challenging due to low flows and high sun during the day. Thus, our fishing hours were confined to 10pm - 6am, which meant very unsociable hours and fishers looking like zombies for most of the time. The sea trout have not materialised in numbers yet, however i managed one about 2lbs and then a lovely salmon of 10lbs on the trout rod. It took all of my fly line the moment it was hooked and was eventually beached 100 yards downstream , a good 25 mins after hooking it. The trout rod is really the way to get them in the low flows and what a fight!
