Happy New Year

Sitting here on hogmany browsing around thinking about the new year – we have only around 70 odd days to go before the new trout season opens. I would like to think I would get some pike fishing done over the next month however it now looks like the weather will be against us all. The UK is to be hit by a big freeze making temperatures plummet to around -17 in the Midlands, it is all thanks to winds from Siberia seemingly.

Ah well – have a good 2008 you guys ! I hope to be meeting you on the river bank at some point.

Any info on A G M. Is it worth going or does no one care any more?

  • Hi Peter, as far as I know the AGM is on the 10th January – do you see any point in going ?
Last year was a joke as noone could understand what Dougie was saying (even though the guy has a lot to say) and a round of applause was given for the bailiffs that noone ever seen on the river – fantastic !

There was such bad feeling after last year that I considered resigning from the commitee – as it turned out I did not have to bother as they just stopped sending me the invites to the meetings.

Dont let them tell you anything else !

Speaking of bailiffs,do you know there were guys bait fishing the week before Christmas on the Kelvin. The phone no. on permit just rings out.

  • Hi Peter, I am away from home at the moment but will be back tomorrow – I will get you the chairmans phone number to give him a bell !

    Alistair

  • Oh Peter, you can contact the club secretary, Douglas Brown, on 0141 946 6060….give him a bell and then raise the issue at the agm if you go….when i raise things they just think i am moaning !

Happy new year Alistair, i will be planning a trip to the special grayling river this weekend, give me a bell if you are interested, any news of the bold MacGregor’s return?

  • I am up for that Alan, what day are you planning ?
By the way I tried to bell you on that mobile number you gave me and it did not seem to work ? Wanna send me it again (by email)
No idea when Mac Gregor gets back from the states – he has been staying out of communication for a while now …no doubt he is enjoying himself and does not want to come back –

edit: I am in Birmingham and just seen the forecast for the UK – I see it is blizzard conditions in Scotland – will that be ok for the Grayling ?

  • alan atkins

Alistair, either day will suit me. I will probably wait and see what day the conditions are at their best. The snow seems to mainly concentrated in the East of the Country so hopefully it will not effect the fishing in the West too much. I will drop an e-mail with my mobile again, although i thought i got a text from you on my phone.
    Speak soon

  • Alex

Hey guys! I’m back and ready for some grayling action!

My mobile is still out of action but you can get me at the house or on my work number.

    cheers

    Alex

Alex, great to hear you are back. I’m at my desk and will give you a bell if i can find your number

All the best and many tight lines for 2008. Reading the posts i was wondering if someone can confirm that the Kelvin AGM is on the 10th Jan. I enjoy nothing better that an evening straining the old ears…. Cheers John

  • Hi John,

I believe it is on the 10th although I have not had anything through the post at all yet. Maybe wait and see if anything goes into the Daily Record – it would not surprise me if they had the agm without telling anyone – you can count on the fact that if there is one thing they need to get right, for example, sending out the correct date for the agm, they will get it wrong – this is what happened last year !

  • Rhona

Was the AGM held on the 10th? I had phoned up Partick Burgh Halls earlier today and was told that it should have been tomorrow (22nd Jan) but had been canceled.
If it was on the 10th then I’ve totally missed it!
    Anything interesting said?

  • Hi Rhona, I have no idea I am afraid – I tend to just concentrate on my love of fishing the river rather than what the association does these days. I would not put it past them to forget to let people know that it was happening or something like that.

If you have missed it I would not worry – you probably missed nowt anyway !

Hi Folk, Have heard a rumour that the AGM is possibly on the 12th Feb @ the Burgh Halls. Dont know what time it starts but I would expect that this would be announced by the Association or then again maybe not..I would treat this as a rumour until some sort of clarification from the Association confirms it. Cheers

  • Rhona

Thanks, will give them a phone closer to the 12th just to check.
Have to say not really worried about missing the AGM as such, suppose it’s just handy to hear if there’s any news.
Looking forward to the new season!

  • hi alistair hows thing not been doing much fishing as it has been to cold looking foward to the session starting bk .even it that i read the bit u rote about the weather getting bad that will proppley steo the fishing bk :( i miss it so much i notic were we fish is all blocked off at the old mill well tight lines and good luck to all :)

  • Hey Nikki,

Yup, pretty much everywhere is slowing down at this time of year – the Pike are being particulary dour and the rivers I would fish for Grayling are out of action – where abouts is blocked off at the mill – has a fence been put up or something to stop people getting to the river ?

  • well they have put metal fenceing all up round the river . i dont think it is to stop ppl getting in as they can use the gate and there is no sign say do not enter or things like that i think they might be pulling down the bridge or maybe part of the new transport museum project in progress

  • Not sure why they would pull down the bridge Nikki – so you can still get onto it ok!

Might be worthwhile bringing the issue up at the AGM !

    A.
