There are some right good looking spots for Pike up near the Junction pool - I would have thought I would hear more from people catching them on the spinners but never seem to!

What size were the Perch ?

Dark at 8.45pm tonight - those nights are fair drawing in - looks like the end of the season may be a damp and dark one !

I was on the Kelvin last night at Garscube Estate.  It was a nice night but the river was a monster and proved difficult. I managed 1 small, (very small), brownie at dusk and tore a hole in my waders clambering out of the river!  I thought the looks I got on the bus on my way there were funny, you should have seen them on the way back with my knee poking out of them.  The kelvin always seems to have the last laugh, but we keep going back! Smile

The perch were small, I didn't have a micrometer with me….., but interesting to catch them far up and in fast water.

i was down the kelvin at the back of kelvin hall and got talking to a guy who was fishing of the bridge for salmon with the worm it was about a good 15 feet drop to the water and was intreaged to see what this guy was going to do if he hooked a salmon but sure enough bang he was in probably about 6lbs after 10 mins of fighting it close to the bridge his wife lowered down this old landing net on three pieces of rope like a hanging basket and scooped up the fish

had to congratulate the gut on a true pieces of urban fishing makeshift equipment

I used to have one of them….a landing net..not a wife :-)  .  I made it up when I went pier fishing with guys from National Savings Bank to places like Custom's House Quay at Greenock ,Ayr Harbour ,Furnace in Argyll etc etc . Just a piece of mild steel welded in to a hoop and holes drilled to take the rope with a net threaded on …

just started fishin the mighty kelvin this year, had 2 or 3 small trout and a salmon about 10lb, put it bak though been in the water 4 a while by the look of it off it.  as for fishin for pike and perch use no better aff up the canal! pike in the kelvin up at mcnairs at kirky end off the kelvin. and as 4 the luggie plenty a small trout in it, but still stinking, fanny pads n shit still spewin from it flowing.

Campbell, whereabouts did you get the perch on the luggie? I fish it a lot but up near its source, ive heard tales of pike many moons ago but only the odd story of a perch! I love fly fishing for perch so to hunt them down in my wee local stream would be amazing!

cheers
